These are leather bookmarks with a hand-tooled tree design. The lengthy process alone makes for a special gift, especially for nature lovers, botanists and environmentalists.
My bookmarks are not die-cut, laser cut, or touched by any machine. First I cut the bookmark from a big piece of leather... then I lightly "pencil in" the design, wet the leather, reach for my carving tools and start the process of tooling the tree.
Once the design is done, I let the bookmark dry. Then I apply oil, let that dry, oil again, dry again, and then, finally, apply a finishing coat of sealant.
It's not to be rushed or the end product will not come out right. It's a fun process nonetheless! No two are "exactly" alike but all are quite similar and follow the same design idea. Each bookmark will have slight color differences but all will darken with time and use since made from a natural leather.
