These leather bookmarks are hand-tooled with a tree design. They make a great unisex gift, especially for nature lovers, botanists, environmentalists . . . or for the everyday, book-reading person that appreciates handcrafted work!
My bookmarks are not die-cut, laser cut, or touched by any machine. I cut each bookmark from vegetable tanned leather, then I lightly "pencil in" the design. Next I wet the leather, making it ripe for tooling, then reach for my carving tools and start the process of tooling & stamping the design. Once that's done, I let the bookmark dry. Then I apply oil, let that dry, oil again, dry again, and then, finally, apply a finishing coat of sealant and attach the leather cord at the top.
It's a lengthy process but fun nonetheless! No two are "exactly" alike but I get it pretty darn close because I follow the same design idea with each one. Bookmarks will darken with time and use since made from natural, undyed leather. May have slight color differences.
