Leather Bookmark with hand-tooled tree design.
First I cut the bookmark from a big piece of leather... then I "pencil in" the design, wet the leather, reach for my carving tools and start the process of tooling the tree. Once that's done, I let the bookmark dry, then apply oil, let that dry, apply a sealant, dry, apply a light stain, dry, and then, finally, a finishing coat. It's not to be rushed or the end product will not come out right. It's a fun process nonetheless! No two are "exactly" alike but all are quite similar and follow the same design idea. Each bookmark will have slight color differences but all will darken with time and use since made from a natural tan leather.
